Last Saturday, Jason and I went to the farm to finish up our hours. We did just a bit of weeding in one of the greenhouses (but the weeds? Were CRAZY. We needed a shovel and a pitchfork to get them out!), then peeled and separated onions (into "suitable for bedding" and "not" piles), then spread buckets of very heavy, but thankfully not stinky, compost throughout one of the hoop houses.
Anyway, my whole point here, is that the onions we helped with were at the pick up this week :) It was really neat to see them from the field to our kitchen.

Love the CSA share pic as always. You get such a great selection from there. That's cool they have heirloom tomatoes. I'm going to try growing them next year in my garden. They cost a fortune in the grocery store.
I agree, it's such a great feeling seeing the vegetables you helped tend to end up in your kitchen :)
Weeding...that sounds like a fun way to spend a day!! hehe I think that's why my parents had kids, to do that for them ;)
That's great that you are able to do a work on the farm too. We'd love to do it someday. Looks like you have a ton of stuff to keep you eating for awhile.
Ryan told me about your CSA stir-fries you are constantly eating - it is a great use of the crop share for sure!

Grammy B, I must find you next week! I'll be the one with the camera and the boy with long hair wearing a skateboarding helmet - he rarely takes it off... don't ask :P Anyway, we're usually there around 4, we'll look for you!

My skateboarder son is now 34 and no longer wears his helmet so don't give up hope. I won't see you 'till the Tues. after Labor day. Then I'll be on Dakota duty every Tues. See ya. Grammy B

They are two pounds of potaotes, Melody :) The other picture is the "shopping list" for the share. If you click on it it'll open a larger version in another window. I was coming home right after the share and typing up what we got each week, but then realized it'd be much easier and fun to document if I just took a photo of the board :)
Your pictures are a fabulous advertisement for joining a CSA. So often people say, "why should I join? It's so expensive... I'll just grow a small garden". A small garden can never match the diversity of that kind of bounty. Bravo to CSAs (and those who support them)!!!
Thanks, Liz :) Even if we planted on every single square inch of land we have, there is no way that we ever could have planted the variety of produce we've received from Blooming Glen. Really, we joined to support our local farmers, farmland, economy and sustainability, but all of these different vegetables and fruits have become an anticipated gift each week :)
